about

Along with Molière and Les Mercenaires, Les Patrons lead the next generation of zouglou music. Zouglou is a style developed in the late 1990s at the height of the Ivorian crisis, the backdrop for songs of protest by Abidjan’s students. It’s also one of the roots of coupé décalé, its party stepchild. Like hip hop, zouglou is a social and cultural reality-check. In C’est la Vie, Les Patrons talk about death, singing in nouchi, the French-based creole slang spoken in Abidjan.
